CAN AN IDIOM BREAK YOUR HEART?

America is straight-jacketed in western-empirical medicine doctrines, summed up, quite unspectacularly by the idiom: if it aint broke, dont fix it.  We eat poorly, dont exercise, make bad choices and only when we have a heart attack or other significant medical event do we seek professional help.  This leads to a lifetime of decline in ones health, energy and vitality with no pro-active efforts towards maintaining health, increasing longevity, making decisions that will have positive repercussions in the long term.

Only when the symptoms of disease become readily identifiable by the patient does the patient even consider going to their doc, rarely questioning the causes of the disease or changing their lifestyle choices. The patients then begin the process of fixin whats broke.  More often than not, by that time, it is already too late for any intervention but the most drastic and then the cure is often equal to or worse than the disease radiation, chemo, surgery or an endless litany of expensive pills.

Not only does the conversation have to change, the entire attitude must change.  There must be a shift in how we perceive our lifestyles and act on our own behalf.  We must shift from a patient dependent on others giving us our options to self-advocate, working hard to lead healthy lifestyles.  There must be a shift towards healthy living and prevention and away from post-diagnosis invasive intervention.

What is your role in your health?  Are you a patient?  Are you a self-advocate for your own health?  Can these things coincide?  The word Patient is derived from the Latin word patiens, the present participle of the deponent verb pati, meaning one who endures or one who suffers. I think it is extremely telling when the expectation of anyone seeking medical help is that they will have to endure and suffer. Was this what Hippocrates had in mind? Not likely.

via http://repairstemcell.wordpress.com/2009/03/22/on-patients-and-patience/

Redefine the conversation, surebut redefine your attitude, your own role in the conversation, your goals for your health and life, your longevity and vitality, your attitude towards your health.  Its time to be an active player in the script of your life and your health, not a passive pawn taking no responsibility for your well-being until you get ill, at which point your options are extremely limited and you have to give up that responsibility to someone else.

Dont let an idiom break your heart.

TREATMENT of HEART DISEASE

With STEM CELLS: EDUCATIONAL OVERVIEW

REPAIR STEM CELLS vs. HEART DISEASE UNDENIABLE SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE

VESCELL HEART DISEASE TRIAL 2004 to 2006 -

Clinical trial illustrates the safety and efficacy of VesCell Repair Stem Cell treatment. Accepted by the American Heart Assn in 2005-6. This trial was a key element in attaining regulatory approval for the treatment protocol that improved the lives of 300 mostly no-option heart patients.

BRITISH JOURNAL OF HAEMOTOLOGY 2006

Research paper shows that peripheral blood derived stem cells can differentiate into a variety of other stem cells (angiogenic, myocardial and neural lineages) and do so in sufficient quantities to use as autologous treatment for a variety of diseases. That simple fact, proven in dozens of such papers, is still denied in US medical journals.

BIOPROCESSING JOURNAL 2007

Bioprocessing Journal scientific paper shows the consistent and reliable manufacturing procedure utilized by VesCell for transforming bone marrow and blood-derived stem cells into angiogenic cell precursors (ACPs) and hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) cellular products for the treatment of severe heart diseases.  End product was found to be a) safe and effective; b) prepared from non-mobilized peripheral blood; c) stable, with a relatively long shelf-life; and d) ready-to-use and easily utilized by the physician.

ANGIOGENIC CELL CLINICAL STUDY 106 CASES 2005 to 2008

Clinical study at Chao Phya Hospital Heart Center and Siriraj Hospital H.M. Cardiac Center clinical study shows that transcoronary injection of angiogenic cells precursors improved cardiac/left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), exercise capacity and quality of life with high safety profile for 70% of ischemic cardiomyopathy patients with no-option revascularization.

CARDIOMYOPATHY TRIAL 55 CASES 2005 to 2006

Bangkok Heart Hospital and U of Pittsburgh Medical Center/McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine clinical trial shows that VesCell type expanded autologous blood derived stem cells utilized in intramyocardial transplantation is feasible and safe in severely ill patients with intractable heart failure in all cases of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and in both first-time and redo ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) patients.

PERIPHERAL ARTERY DISEASE SCIENTIFIC PAPER 6 CASES

Shows the safety, and feasibility and enhancement of limb salvage from implantation of non-mobilized peripheral blood angiogenic cell precursors (NMPB-ACPs) in patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI) who were poor candidates for standard revascularization treatment options.

HEART DISEASE CLINICAL STUDIES

A BRIEF HISTORY

2002

A clinical trial led by Dr. Hans Dohmann plus six colleagues in Brazil took 21 transplant candidates and gave 14 of them bone marrow cells. The results were so spectacular that the American Heart Association accepted the paper and it was presented in 2003. Five of the seven in the control group opted in to make a total of 19 stem cell transplants. The mortality rate for transplant candidates is about 35% per year. At that rate there would be, of those 19, only 2.2 patients still alive without a transplant after five years. There were, in fact, 12 alive as of Dec. 31, 2007; more than five years down the road.

If you did not want or could not get a heart transplant (as is true of 90%+ of dying heart patients in North America) then you had to make a choice between stem cell treatment or standard Western Cardiology methodology.

Western Cardiology methodology kept 12% of patients (waiting for heart transplants) alive for five years.

The first revolutionary such study, accepted by the American Heart Association in 2003 showed that adult/repair Stem cell treatments kept 63% of patients (waiting for heart transplants) alive for five years.  More than 5 times more heart transplant candidates lived for 5 years with stem cell treatments than the typical heart transplant recipient! Since 2002, stem cell science has continued to make huge advancements in treating heart disease over the past seven years.

2003

Dr. Andreas Zeiher of the Goethe Institute in Frankfurt began much larger trials. As of 2007, he has overseen more ASC implants into hearts than anyone, both in and out of clinical trials and he was the first to prove that timely implant of RSC in new heart attack victims improves future mortality and morbidity http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/search?journalcode=circulationaha&fulltext=zeiher

2004

Dr. Amit Patel of Pittsburgh completed two of the most successful trials ever.  In Uruguay, he proved, on a group of ischemic heart failure patients, that a bypass plus cells was infinitely better than a bypass only. That same year, TheraVitae, in Israel, developed a new, powerful blood-derived stem cell and dared to treat the sickest patients no clinical trial (except Brazil) would consider.

One of the Brazilians, Dr. Perin, came to Texas, used the Brazil results to get the first ASC heart clinical trial approved by the FDA. Over a dozen such approvals were granted in the next 12-18 months.

The first-ever commercial stem cell treatment center in the world starts adult stem cell treatment of hundreds of human patients.  Results are amazing and include the regrowing of cardiac muscle tissue in patients, significant increases and sometimes a doubling of ejection fractions (the % volume of blood the heart can pump out per beat), etc!  Stem cells are also recognized as smart, going to where they were needed most, creating micro-vessel bypasses around existing blockages areas, areas that previously were blocked and in areas where stents were implanted.

2005

Dr. Doris Taylor removed all cells from rat hearts except for a thin skeleton of tissue translucent as wax paper. She then injected the scaffold with fresh Cardiac Repair Stem Cells from newborn rats.  Four days later, We could see these little areas that were beginning to beat.  By eight days, we could see the whole heart beating.  The experiment, reported in the journal Nature Medicine, marked the first time scientists created a functioning heart in the lab from biological tissue. Dr. Taylor continues to expand the limits of scientific knowledge to this day.

2006

Case Study: James Eilert, 34 years old, is diagnosed with a widowmaker [100 % blockage of the left ascending coronary artery]. His ejection fraction (EF volume of blood his heart pumps out) was between 20 and 25 percent (60 is normal for a person in his 30s). His cardiologist told him he had about 5 years left to live, a reasonable estimate. James left the country in order to receive Repair Stem Cell treatment.

1 1/2 weeks after treatment Echocardiogram revealed that his completely dead apex was beating again.

6 months after treatment - Sidewalls of heart beat normally. Septum went from 100% damage to 30% damage. Cardiologist confirms James heart is 50 percent more elastic than the year before Repair Stem Cell therapy.

6 9 months after treatment James total dead heart tissue is down to about 10%. EF is up to 50%!

4 years later - James heart and health continue to improve. He continues to push himself and his limits.  He runs regularly, works 7 days a week and can bike 20 miles

Summation:

James went from Class III congestive heart failure to Class I with an ejection fraction (EF) increase from ~20-25% to his current EF of 50%.  His doctors have lifted all restrictions and limitations on his physical activities.  Ask your cardiologist how many heart failure patients he has taken from NYHA Class III to Class 1 or 1.5.

James is only one of many such success stories.

2009

Clinical trials at the Mayo Clinic in Florida have seen successes in reversing pulmonary hypertension using adult stem cells from patients own blood.

2010

Hundreds of heart disease patients have experienced improved quality of life, increased ejection fractions, increased energy and stamina. Many have reduced their prescription drugs and even reduced their insulin requirements.

Cardiomyopathy Patient Can Do Triathlon After Adult Stem Cells

In VICTORIES & SUCCESS STORIES on March 8, 2010

Until 2005, Jason Ludwick's life was dominated by what he could not do. He was in and out of hospital and living on a cocktail of expensive drugs to try and keep his failing heart functioning. Then, like hundreds of others he went to Thailand for adult stem cell therapy to get real help for heart disease.

Jason Ludwick, now aged 37, from West Bloomfield, Michigan, counts himself a lucky man. Born with an atrial septal defect, by the time he was 15 he had a pacemaker; by 21 he was diagnosed as having
cardiomyopathy and by 25 he had a defibrillator in place and an ejection fraction of just 8-10 percent. Heart failure dominated and restricted his life until he received adult stem cell therapy. Now he says that with training he could do a triathlon.

While his schoolmates ran and played sports, Jason's life was dominated by his
illness and his failing heart ensured he did not run or play any contact sports. He was in and out of hospital and living on a cocktail of expensive drugs. His kidneys bled, his liver swelled, he suffered from asthma and he found it difficult to throw off a common cold. Despite all this, Jason tried to live as normally as possible although his heart was steadily failing.

His mother searched for help after he was removed from a heart transplant list. He was then left only with medications, some of which had unpleasant side-effects and he felt constantly tired and depressed as he went back and forth to specialists having his medications reviewed. And then his mother read about adult stem cell therapy.

Just one month after his adult stem cell therapy, Jason knew his life was going to change, "My heart was beating better, more rhythmically, and I had more energy," he said. "After six months I was up and flying, feeling 100 percent different. I could mow the lawns, take walks, ride a bike with my kids, lift weights - do whatever I liked," he said. "I'm always on the go with our fifth child on the way and always busy as a full-time parent."

Jason has always enjoyed a huge level of support from his family and friends, but is very happy to spend time advising other cardiomyopathy sufferers of the power of positive thinking. "Always try to be positive," he counsels. "There is hope. Take care of your
diet and help get the word out that adult stem cell therapy is worth getting done. It's nothing like what you would have thought."

Hundreds of people suffering from end-stage heart failure, cardiomyopathy or
coronary heart disease, who have been amazed at the results of adult stem cells and the clinical outcomes. Those being told they are without any treatment options now have the choice of staying at home to await death or to join the 75-plus percent who will enjoy a longer life characterized by greater energy and far fewer symptoms.

Adult stem cell therapy is proving a lifeline to all those heart patients who are sick of being sick, or who do not wish their lives to be characterized by restricted activity, low energy, pain, cost and brevity. The trend will continue to grow as more and more people become aware that they cannot be harmed by a therapy that uses their own adult stem cells and that the procedures are straightforward, effective and performed in world-class hospitals by skilled, often eminent, heart specialists. Most encouraging clinical outcomes are being supported by research findings as well as by patient report. If Jason gets the time to train and does a triathlon, the world will sit up and take notice.

Grinstead Still Grinning 5 Years after Adult Stem Cell Therapy

Monday, March 15, 2010 (article revised with new data) Seventeen years ago Bob Grinstead, now 74, from Roswell, Georgia, had his first massive heart attack. After a series of grafts he continued working as a salesman for five years until told to retire as he was in and out of hospital having stents inserted and then having to have them cleaned out.

In 2003 he had another bypass, this time with three grafts and a short while later he needed three medicated stents. After all this he still went on the next year to have four more heart attacks and yet another bypass was proposed. His specialist at Emory University, not surprisingly, told him his heart was not strong enough to undergo further surgery, so he investigated a laser procedure that would have cut away a part of his heart. Declining this offer his family searched for some real help.

A son read about a man who had had his own adult stem cells injected and was now active, so Bob searched to see if he could get on a clinical trial. His fear that if accepted he might end up in a placebo group sent his family scuttling back to the internet and eventually they found Theravitae, an Israeli-Thai company at the forefront of research and development into adult stem cells for heart failure, ischemic heart disease and cardiomyopathy. Bob read about patients successful outcomes and came to believe that adult stem cell therapy represented his best chance.

By the end of 2004 Bob was taking a daily tablet of nitro and gobbling up more every time he exerted himself. The least activity proved painful, and to travel, as he did in December of that year, entailed a wheelchair at every airport. In March 2005 he went to Bangkok, still needing an airport wheelchair and entered Chao Phaya Hospital under the care of renowned cardiologist Dr. Suphachai. After a simple blood draw which was flown to Israel to the laboratory for harvesting of the stem cells he needed, he had to wait a few days until the enriched supply of millions of his adult stem cells were reintroduced into his heart by catheter.

His experience of the hospital and care on Bangkok was simply, Fantastic. The hospital was spotless and I received the most thorough physical examination I had ever had. The nurses, too, were just wonderful.

Returning home Bob continued with his nitro tablets the first week but despite being more active, walking further and feeling better within four weeks he was experiencing no chest pain at all, so dispensed with his nitro. He continues to improve to this day and notes that his EF (a measure of the hearts effectiveness at pumping blood) has risen from 30 to 46.

He does what he wants to do. He can walk for half an hour and use a treadmill. Living without chest pain alone has been fantastic enough for him to volunteer his time to talk to people contemplating receiving adult stem cell therapy and to share his story.

Bob could have sat on his decking and read a book until he died but instead he and his wife have been to London (where they walked everywhere), the British Virgin Islands and he has skippered a 47-foot catamaran for a week. He is so busy traveling around catching up with his family that in the last year he has spent only six months at home.

The cost? Not a waste for five years of life. I reckon it was a pretty good buy. Its a far better option than a bypass, he said.

Theravitae- makers of Vescell have now helped almost 500 end-stage heart patients. Their clinical trial results have demonstrated that about 70 percent of heart failure, ischemic heart disease and cardiomyopathy patients can expect to regain a far better quality of life, be more active and pain free.

The Repair Stem Cell Institute caught up with Bob on March 17, 2010 to assess his current status. Here is his response on the 5th anniversary of his receiving Repair Stem Cell treatment...in his own words:

"Doin' Great, Don!  Walking 30 minutes once or twice a day. Do anything I want to do except Barbara won't let me run marathons...she thinks 74 is old!  We have four trips planned for this summer and fall.  Most of all we are looking forward to our 55th wedding anniversary on June 3, which ain't bad for a guy who didn't think he would make it to his 50th."

Bob invites new patients to correspond with him so he may share his Repair Stem Cell treatment experiences with others:  <bobgrinstead@yahoo.com>

New Heart, New Love, New Son Courtesy of Adult Stem Cells

In VICTORIES & SUCCESS STORIES on March 8, 2010

Ten years ago a Surfers Paradise, Australia mans life was dominated by heart disease and time was running out. Now he has been granted a new wife and baby son better health total happiness.

Peter Irwin from Surfers Paradise in Queensland, Australia, has much to be thankful for. Ten years ago he was depressed, ill and deeply unhappy. He suffered from both Dilated Cardiomyopathy and some Ischemic Heart Disease that was slowly but surely killing him. Told there was nothing more that could be done for him and with no hope of living beyond another two years he started to seek for someone or something that could give him better odds.

An internet search unearthed that adult stem cells can offer hope and help. Peter failed to get on to a clinical trial in his own country because he was too ill to meet their entry criteria and so he went to Bangkok in October 2005 thinking he had nothing to lose.

Within four months of a simple procedure at a Bangkok Heart Hospital Peter was feeling much better and far more optimistic. His cardiologist had to agree that on clinical tests his heart was performing far more efficiently. His life since then has continued to improve. He still has some health issues but they no longer dominate his life. The greatest improvement has been that he can enjoy a far better quality of life and has high expectations of a very positive future.

Adult stem cell therapy helped his heart strengthen, revascularize and repair and he made other dietary and lifestyle changes that he thinks have also benefited him. If you are beyond hope of treatment because of heart disease, all is not lost, he said. Almost every day research is being published that shows just how many seriously ill heart patients can be returned to a life they thought they had lost.

To cap off all his gains Peter and his new wife have brought into the world a new son. Stem cells made me reconsider my life. I now have the love and care of a new partner and a son whom I love more than I thought it possible to love. It is indeed a miracle and I am so grateful, Peter said.

Looking at the family photographs he sent at the time of his sons birth Peter looks the picture of health and happiness. One would never know that such a short time ago he faced a brief, painful, anxious, hopeless and debilitating future.

RSCI EPILOGUE:

Thank you for reading the Repair Stem Cell Institutes Newsletter!  We want to bring you up to date on the new improved stem cell treatments that are available now

In 2009, the Repair Stem Cell Institute helped thousands to learn about the safe and effective stem cell treatments available to them. Many chose stem cell treatments that the Institute recommended, and perhaps two-thirds of them are well on their way to an improved quality of life.

Not only are dozens and dozens of new stem cell protocols in use today which were not being used as of 1/1/2008, but more information is also now available. As an example, for the first time in stem cell history, scientific data proving the miraculous results the worlds first stem cell company has achieved for 400+ no-option cardiovascular patients will be available in 2010, and the Institute will be the first to have the summary data along with abstracts of peer reviewed published papers.

Parkinsons treatments, which have been limited due to difficulty of getting the stem cells to the affected portion of the brain, will see new protocols in early 2010 which will use catheters to implant those stem cells where they will be most beneficial.  This protocol may soon apply to stroke and PPMS patients also.

Spinal Cord and Cerebral Palsy patients now have choices closer to North America than ever before, while those with Muscular Skeletal disorders such as bone, tendon, cartilage and knee problems can now be treated with Repair Stem Cells in North America.  Many of our top stem cell centers have switched from the patient's bone marrow to the patient's tummy fat to provide the strongest stem cells.

The Institute has become an all-in-one resource for widespread Repair Stem Cell information and patient education. There is no cost or obligation for our services. We look forward to helping you.
